Kiva: page 6 of 14
This month, Kiva has made some changes to it’s volunteer editing and translating structure. Editors and translators are now organized into teams with each team having a team leader. I was assigned to an editing team with the provisional name of “Editing Team 1”. Teams get to choose their own names for their teams and my team, building on the provisional name, chose to become “No. 1 Editing Team”. That was sticking our neck out a little but we worked hard during the month and came up with the most loans edited. Whew!.

* In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, the members support one another and are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.
16th Oct: I made my 14th loan to Elver Ventura Mantari. Elver is 33, and he lives in Peru with his 25 year old wife and two daughters aged 2 and 4. They live in Elver’s father’s house, which was affected by the earthquake, and the situation has still not improved. With his savings Elver was able to buy land and has raised a building using good materials. However, he needs a loan to be able to put on a roof made from cane, sticks, and mud. 22nd Oct: I edited my 6000th Kiva loan description.
18th Dec: I made my 15th loan to Marina Denisova. Marina lives in Ukraine with her husband and small son. She owns four kiosks at which she sells batteries, flashlights and other electrical goods. She needs the loan to buy more stock to sell during the Christmas season. Click on the photo to see the loan on the Kiva website.
