Jeff Avery - About, page 1 of 5
It all began on 1st January 1938 when John and Ivy were married in England, choosing a 1st January wedding for tax reasons!
World War II broke out in 1939 and, beginning in 1940, London was subjected to the Blitz. When my mother was pregnant with me in 1942 she was evacuated to Northampton.
In the spring of 1942 I made it into the world. It must have been soon afterwards when the photo on the left was taken.
Age 7 months with proud parents.
Here I am on my first birthday. I’m told that I was generally a happy baby.
My sister Wendy came along in 1943. Here she is at age 3 months with me at 19 months.
After the war we lived with my grandmother at 56 Gilpin Grove, Edmonton, North London. On the left is a photo of me at the Gilpin Grove street party held to celebrate the end of the World War II. I am the one in the middle with Cyril Burrells on my left looking after me. I would be 3 or 4 years old. Cyril was blind in one eye due to an accident.
