Gilpin Grove, Edmonton, 1945

Street party to celebrate the end of WWII

The view is to the east and the background is the wall of the air-raid shelter that was built in the square. A lorry (truck) - possibly one borrowed from the coal-delivery business is being used as a stage.

On the stage are George Burrells at the drums; my mother Ivy (Gladys) Avery at the microphone and Maud Burrells behind the table.

I am sitting in the front row with Cyril Burrells, who is looking after me (the enlargement on the right shows an unidentified boy, then me, then Cyril).

I don’t have names for anyone else in the photo.

Can you add any names? If so, let me know
