Between the two buildings there is a hall that was used for various functions such as cub and scout meetings. Its entrance was in College Gardens but there was an alley that led to the back and into Gilpin Grove. When I lived there (1945-1956) the access to Gilpin Grove was always locked. I could be mistaken, but I think I remember my dad saying that he used to box there.
Behind the hall, the building with the chimney is the Regal cinema on the corner of Silver Street and Fore Street.
Gilpin Grove had gas street-lighting and a lamppost can be seen on the left.
